GEOGRAPHY INDICATION PRODUCTS——HUAZHOU EXOCARPIUM INTRODUTION

化州橘红是芸香科柑橘属植物化州柚的干燥幼果，是广东省化州市独有的地道药材，素有“南方人参”之称。化州也因盛产化橘红而有“橘州”、“橘城”、“橘乡”之美称。化州橘红有悠久的历史，南朝宋时 （公元420年） 已有药用记载，明清两代被列为贡品，化州橘红因其只有在化州境内含有礞石及多种特定的微量元素土质及生态条件下生成，故有“化州橘红唯化州独有”之说。清光绪十四年（公元1888年）彭以孙编纂的《化州志》记载“化州橘红，治痰症如神，每片真者可值一金，每年结实，循例报明上官，至期采摘批制，即官斯士者亦不易得。”时凡入化州的官宦商贾、文人学士，均以能获得一两枚化州橘红为幸事。自公元420年以来，已有1500多年的历史，药食同源，沿用至今。2009年化州被中国经济林协会誉为“中国化橘红之乡”的光荣称号。2006年12月率先获得中华人民共和国地理标志保护产品。2013年11月化橘红产业协会成功注册了“化橘红”、“化州橘红”原产地理证明商标。

Exocarpium Citri Grandis is the dried young fruit of pomelo from Huazhou,wich is a kind of plant belonging to rutaceae. According to the medical record, it had been used as medicine in Song dynasty (AD 420 years),and servedas palace tribute in Ming, Qing dynasties. Exocarpium Citri Grandis obtain only from the area to Huazhou special soil with chlorite schist,many unique microelement and ecological condition. So it is said “ Exocarpium Citri Grandis is special local product for Huazhou”.Recorded in <<Huazhou History>> written by Yisun Peng in Qing Goungsh 14 years (AD 1888 years), “Exocarpium Citri Grandis, wonderful cure at phlegm, every real piece values as gold, harvests every year, report to officers follow convention, pick and process on time, even the right owners hard to get it.” Officers were proud at owning even one or two pieces of Exocarpium Citri Grandis that time when they went to Huazhou.

Its medical history from AD 420 years to now has been about 1500 years,homology of medicine and food, until now. China economic forest institute granted Huazhou a title of honour“China exocarpium town”in 2009. Huazhou took the lead in getting People’s Republic of China protection of geographical indications products in December 2006. Exocarpium Industry Association had registered successfully for the geography of origin identification symbol “Hua Juhong” “Huazhou Juhong”.

地道的化州橘红花果绒毛柔浓，气味芳香泌人，药用功效神奇。明朝李时珍《本草纲目》中记载“橘红佳品，其瓤内有红白之分，利气、化痰、消油腻、消食、醒酒、宽中、解蟹毒。”清江世琳《橘红辨》谓：“化州所产橘红，医家以利气化痰功于他药，人皆宝之。”光绪年间的《化州志》载曰：“化州橘红，治痰如神，每片真者值一金。”《中华人民共和国药典》（2010年版）载：“化州橘红辛、苦、温、归肺、脾经。具理气宽中、燥湿化痰，用于咳嗽痰多、食积伤酒、呕恶痞闷。”

Li Shizhen in Ming dynasty recorded into <<Compendium of Materia Medica>>, “Exocarpium Citri Grandis, pith red or white,good at bronchial asthma, phlegm, greasy stomach, alcohol dissipating, crab food poisoning.” <<Exocarpium Syndrome Differentiation>>by Jing Shilin in Qing, “Exocarpium from Huazhou, medical man loves it for the power much more helpful than others at bronchial asthma and phlegm.” <<Huazhou History>> in Goungsh years, “Exocarpium Citri Grandis, amazing at phlegm, every real piece values one gold.” <<Chinese Pharmacopeia>>(2010edition)records: “Exocarpium Citri Grandis pungent, bitter, warm, work for lung, spleen, and nerve.Dispel pathogenic cold, eliminate dampness, cure gasp, reduce phlegm. Use for cold cough, throat itchy, abundant phlegm, dyspepsia, sick for alcohol, ruffian vomit or stifling breathing, etc.”
